Immigrants in Minnesota. In this presentation, Michele Waslin, PhD, will discuss the history of immigration to Minnesota and provide a snapshot of immigrants and refugees residing in the state today, highlighting the economic, social, and cultural contributions of immigrants in Minnesota over time. She will offer a realistic view of challenges the state faces, and offer a preview of the role of immigrants moving forward. Through her remarks, Waslin will review basic concepts of immigration law and terminology, thereby contributing to a shared understanding of the issue and enabling thoughtful, constructive conversations about the future of US immigration.

This community conversation led by Eden Prairie's Human Rights & Diversity Commission brings together a diverse panel of speakers who will share personal stories and cultural perspectives across key aspects of daily life. After the panel discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to share their own personal stories and perspectives in an interactive gallery walk.
